When Is IRONMAN Kona 2025?
The IRONMAN Kona 2025 Xclusive Challenge is scheduled for October 25, 2025, bringing together athletes from across the world for a 140.6-mile test of endurance. The course begins with a 2.4-mile swim in Kailua Bay, followed by a 112-mile bike ride through the lava fields of Queen Kaʻahumanu Highway, and concludes with a 26.2-mile run along the coast.

What Airport Should You Fly Into for the IRONMAN?
There are two major airports on the Big Island. You will want to fly into Kona International Airport (KOA). The start and finish line are about a 20-minute drive from the airport. Popular resort and lodging options in Waikoloa and Mauna Lani are also a 20-minute drive away.

What is the Race Map? Where Does Everything Take Place?
The northwest coastline of the Big Island is where the swim, bike, and run take place. This iconic coastline is often referred to as the Kohala Coast and is home to luxury resorts, world-class golf courses, sprawling jet-black rock lava fields, and beautiful coastal vistas. Here is a link to the official race map.

What Area on the Big Island is Best to Stay for the IRONMAN? What is There to Do?
We recommend staying north of the start and finish line along the Kohala Coast in Waikoloa or Mauna Lani. When staying in these resort communities, you will avoid the traffic and crowds of Kona Town during race week and also have easy access to plenty of fun and cultural attractions such as:

  • Puako Petroglyph Archaeological Preserve: Discover over 1,000 ancient Hawaiian petroglyphs along scenic trails
  • Kalahuipuaʻa Historic Park & Fishponds: Explore centuries-old fishponds and lava caves, offering a glimpse into traditional Hawaiian aquaculture.
  • Holoholokai Beach Park: A serene spot for tidepool exploration and beachcombing.
  • 49 Black Sand Beach: Bury your toes in the jet-black volcanic sand at an iconic black sand beach along the Kohala Coast.
  • Review additional suggestions on things to do in Mauna Lani.

What are Some Recommended Dining & Restaurant Options?
There are plenty of great dining options across the Big Island. Below are some convenient choices close to all the IRONMAN festivities.

  • CanoeHouse Restaurant: Experience oceanfront dining that blends Japanese-Paniolo flavors with Big Island ingredients.
  • Lava Lava Beach Club: Arguably the best happy hour setting on the island. Sip drinks and nibble on island-inspired snacks as your toes are in the sand.
  • Kona Brewing Company: Enjoy a celebratory drink after finishing one of the most grueling athletic events!
  • Napua at Mauna Lani Beach Club: Enjoy fresh, locally sourced Hawaiian cuisine in a relaxed, beachfront setting.

Any Final Tips for Planning Your Trip to Hawaii for the IRONMAN?
Yes! Be sure to plan early. Athletes, family members, and fans will be traveling from across the world to Hawaii's Big Island. Hotel rooms, vacation rentals, and rental cars are limited. We suggest locking in your accommodations, tour activities, and car rental by summer of 2025, while you will still have ample choices. If traveling with family, a vacation rental or private home might make the most sense compared to a hotel room. The added space and full kitchen allow you the comforts of home while preparing fo the biggest race of your life.

CoralTree Residence Collection has a wide collection of spacious one-, two-, and three-bedroom condos, townhouses, and private homes located in Mauna Lani that would be an excellent homebase during the event week. Properties like Mauna Lani Point and The Islands at Mauna Lani are fan favorites. Our local team can help with concierge services such as pre-race grocery delivery, in-home massage treatments, and tickets to the top luaus or dinner cruises to celebrate.
