Gutenberg! The Musical!

Gutenberg! The Musical! is a riotously funny, self-aware stage comedy by Scott Brown and Anthony King that hilariously spoofs the world of musical theatre. The show is framed as a backer’s audition in which two hopelessly enthusiastic but talent-challenged friends, Bud and Doug, pitch their ambitious (and historically inaccurate) musical about Johannes Gutenberg, the inventor of the printing press, in hopes of landing a Broadway deal. With only themselves to play every role, they switch characters using simple props like labeled hats, sing catchy pastiche numbers, and weave outrageous scenes set in a wildly fictional 15th-century Germany — blending slapstick, absurdity, and genuine heart as they celebrate both dreams and theatrical passion.
